Art of the hands | Story of the land
Kristin Olds is a ceramic artist living, learning and creating on unceded Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. Her work invites us to connect with the story of the land, honouring the origins of clay and the elements of nature that come together to make her slowly crafted pieces possible. Shaping simple forms and layering them with function, connection and beauty, Kristin crafts both wheel thrown and hand built pieces, finishing them with her signature wood ash glaze.
A visual identity that grew from a place of purpose and grounded in the concept of connection. A talented artist with a genuine warmth – connection was present from our first meet. The land and native bush surrounding Kristin’s studio in North Warrandyte and her connection to it informed the artistic direction and design development.
Looking out her studio window a tall native tree accompanies Kristen and her work – a companion and constant. It welcomes the morning mist and farewells the evening light. It stands proud in the bush landscape and speaks of the connection to place, land and the origin of clay. The illustrated tree features throughout the branding story – with movement in the leaves you can feel the breeze, the spirit.
With hands and heart the visual identity unfolded. Brand application incorporates tactile papers and natural tones reminiscent of the bush. It feels authentic, personal and deeply caring – as if holding a Kristin Olds piece of slow crafted ceramics in your hand. We have a shared passion for story telling and process – and it was a delight to work together.
